I recognise that homework can sometimes be a source of stress and conflict which I would like to mitigate. The homework will be put onto the class page (Website) every Tuesday for the week.
To limit the risks posed by cross-contamination, homework will be set predominantly online. As the children are now obviously accustomed to working in this way. TT Rockstars / Diagnostic Questions and Sir Linkalot will form the basis of these tasks. However, I will be setting project work to be handed in but will be quarantined first. Homework is usually set on a Tuesday to be completed / handed in on the following Monday. As the children have so much to get used to at the moment, settling into life back at school, in a new class and key stage, I will not be starting homework straight away. Homework will begin the week commencing 14th September. Please continue to read with or to your child each day, focusing on asking questions about what they are reading in order to strengthen comprehension skills. Due to Covid restrictions I will not be sending books home with the children. They will be given a reading book to keep at school and will read this each day. Usually I like to keep them reading one book at a time, at school and at home but at the moment this won’t be possible. Please read with your child on a regular basis.
Rewards and sanctions
Good work and behaviour will result in team points, class treats and weekly certificates in celebration assembly. I believe in having a positive approach with the children and will praise them regularly and wherever I can.
Warnings will be given to the children before a sanction follows. This may take the form of missing a playtime or using their time to complete unfinished work. All of the class have contributed to a set of classroom rules and expectations and are aware of the sanctions procedure in the case of unacceptable behaviour.
Learning and behaviour expectations
I expect the children to learn and behave in accordance with the school and classroom rules. I expect them to listen fully during teaching time and not to disturb anyone else. Children should contribute to class discussion and work to their full potential at all times. It is vital that children learn to become more independent and resilient in this year, as these skills will serve them well throughout their learning and school life in general. Please support this, wherever possible.
Most learning in English and Maths will consist of whole class teaching, followed by independent or group tasks with children generally grouped with those of a similar ability, however some mixed ability groupings will be used when I feel it is appropriate.
Sharing thoughts and ideas will be an important part of the children’s learning therefore talk partners are used throughout the year. Your child will be seated at a “base table” alongside their talk partner, seats are chosen at random. This encourages children to make new friends, support one another and develop their social communication skills.
Term 1 PE will be on a Friday. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit (with warm leggings/jogging bottoms as the weather cools) on that day. There will be no swimming this term – as soon as we know more we will update you.
Please contact the office to make them aware of your child’s absence. If your child is to attend appointments, please do let me know as well through giving a letting to the child the day before.
If your child needs to take medication during the school day, please come to the school office to fill in a form. A normal letter is not enough as the information needs to be recorded in a certain way.
Keeping in contact
I try to encourage the children to tell me messages from home where appropriate to help develop their independence but I appreciate that sometimes you may need to give me a message that is more delicate or urgent. Due to social distancing, I would be grateful if you only do this if it is urgent and use the office wherever possible. Thank you.
Mr D, Miss Roebuck and I look forward to working with you this year to help your child thrive and learn.
