British Values
In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.
The Key Values are:
Stocks Green British Values Statement
At Stocks Green Primary School we value the diversity and backgrounds of all our pupils, their families and the school community.
We recognise the multi-cultural, multi faith nature of the United Kingdom and the crucial role our school plays in promoting tolerance and understanding.
We ensure that fundamental British values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos, vision and life of the school.
Curriculum subjects provide opportunities for furthering understanding of these concepts and in particular, our RE, SMSC, PSHE lessons and assemblies provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop perceptions.
We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they grow into safe, caring, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British society and to the world. We encourage them to be creative, open minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.
The British Values are taught through curriculum subjects as well as explicitly through the school's Passport of Possibilities. This includes opportunities for children to take part in debates and discuss individual liberty. There are also opportunities to listen to talks from the police and magistrates to understand the rule of law. Children are taught about democracy by having the opportunity to take part in votes for things that affect the whole school, such as which charities to support and who should represent the classes as part of the school council. Tolerance and mutual respect are taught through a variety of culture and community elements on each year group’s individual Passport of Possibilities. The school also looks for additional ad hoc opportunities to teach these values, such as during a general election campaign.
Information on the school's Passport of Possibilities and the how the school teaches British Values can be seen on the Passport of Possibilities page link below.
