Transition from Pre School
At Stocks Green Primary School, we understand how important a smooth and positive start to school is for both children and their families. Our carefully planned transition process into the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is designed to help every child feel safe, confident, and excited about beginning their school journey.
We work closely with local nurseries and preschools, visiting children in their familiar settings to get to know their interests, needs, and learning styles. Where appropriate, our SENCO also takes part in this process to ensure that any additional needs are identified early and supported effectively in partnership with external professionals and families.
To help children and parents become familiar with our school environment, we offer:
- Two story-time sessions at school with parents
- A taster “Play and Stay” session in the classroom
- A welcome meeting led by the Headteacher and Reception team
- Opportunities to meet individually with teachers and teaching assistants before the school year begins
Once children have started school, we continue to nurture the home-school relationship through:
- An open-door policy for any concerns or queries
- Weekly newsletters and regular updates via the Reception Class Page
- Termly 'Stay and Play' sessions
- Parent consultation meetings and an end-of-year report
- Invitations to join school events such as assemblies, workshops, and celebrations
Each child is also paired with a Year 6 buddy to help them settle into school life, providing a friendly face in the playground and at lunchtimes.
Through early connections, thoughtful preparation, and ongoing support, we strive to make every child’s start at Stocks Green happy, secure, and successful.
