Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

At Stocks Green, we believe that learning a new language helps children to expand their horizons, develop communication skills, and deepen their understanding of the wider world. Our MFL curriculum focuses on French and is delivered to all KS2 pupils through engaging, interactive lessons using the Language Angels scheme.

Children learn to speak, listen, read, and write in French, with lessons carefully planned to build vocabulary, grammar, and confidence. Topics are age-appropriate and rooted in real-life contexts, encouraging pupils to apply their learning in fun and meaningful ways.

Each class receives fortnightly French lessons, complemented by regular practice and reinforcement throughout the week. Lessons use songs, stories, games, and role-play to make language learning enjoyable and memorable.

Through our curriculum, we aim to:

  • Foster a love of languages and curiosity about other cultures

  • Build strong foundations for future language learning

  • Support children in becoming resilient, independent learners

Progress is tracked throughout KS2 to ensure every child is supported and challenged. By the end of Year 6, our pupils leave with the confidence and enthusiasm to continue learning languages in secondary school and beyond.

The knowledge and skills acquired in each year group is set out in our Progression of Knowledge and Skills document, which can be seen below.
