PSHE
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education
At Stocks Green Primary School, we believe that PSHE education is fundamental in supporting pupils to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. Our PSHE curriculum aims to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes pupils need to manage their lives, both now and in the future.
We follow the SCARF scheme of learning, which provides a comprehensive and progressive structure that covers the DfE's statutory requirements for Relationships Education and Health Education, as well as key elements of the PSHE Association’s Programme of Study, including economic education, environmental awareness, rights of the child, and British Values.
Through our PSHE curriculum, children explore six key themes throughout the year:
- Me and My Relationships
- Valuing Difference
- Keeping Myself Safe
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Being My Best
- Growing and Changing
Our curriculum ensures pupils reflect on their increasing independence, develop skills to build and maintain positive relationships, manage personal safety including online, understand changes at puberty, and explore how they can positively contribute to their communities and wider society. Learning is spiral and sequenced, meaning that key themes and skills are revisited and deepened as children move through the school.
PSHE at Stocks Green aims to ignite children's interest in themselves, their community and the wider world, and to promote positive mental health, resilience and achievement. It is taught in a safe and nurturing environment where discussion and reflection are central to learning. Progression of vocabulary, knowledge and skills are systematically mapped across the curriculum, ensuring that pupils know more, remember more, and can apply what they have learned.
Emotional health and wellbeing are at the heart of our school ethos. We believe that strong personal and social skills support better academic outcomes and equip pupils to face challenges with confidence, curiosity and resilience.
By the end of Key Stage 2, it is expected that our pupils will leave Stocks Green with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to stay healthy and safe and to thrive in their next stage of education and beyond.
The knowledge, skills and vocabulary pupils acquire at each stage are set out in our Progression of Knowledge and Skills document, which can be found below. Our full PSHE Curriculum Statement provides more detail about our approach to intent, implementation, and impact.
