EYFS News
Last week of term in EYFS we continued our topic of 'Animals and Humans' in class. We found out how a humans needs change over time.
Last week:
In maths we learnt subtraction and what happens when we take some away. We looked at number stories to find the answer to “How many
are there now?” Then to deepen learning, we provided children with ‘first, then, now’ number stories where the ‘then’ part is missing. For
example, “There were 10 children on the bus, then we don’t know how many got off, but now there are 5 children on the bus.”
In Phonics we have learnt the digraph /oi/ making the phoneme /oi/ as in 'coin'. We will continue working on spelling our Tricky Words.
In reading we have worked on recognising digraphs in texts.
Next week in EYFS we will finish off our work on the Seasons by looking at the topic of 'Summer'. We will revise the other seasons and then look at the features of Summer.
Next week:
In maths we will be focusing on shape and extending previous learning to further explore the properties of shapes and spatial relations. We will provide opportunities for children to explore the attributes of shapes, to select shapes for a particular purpose and rotate shapes to fill a given space. Children will explore moving, turning, rotating and flipping shapes to fit into the spaces provided. They will use positional language and then progress to explaining more complex shape arrangements.
In Phonics we will be learning the digraph /ow/ making the phoneme /ow/ as in 'cow'. We will continue working on spelling our Tricky Words.
In reading we will work on recognising digraphs and Tricky Words in texts.
Important things to remember:
Reading books are changed on Monday so please return to school after reading with your child. Please make sure to write a comment in your child’s contact book so we know that the books have been read and then we will change them..
On Wednesday we will be reading to Year Four so please ensure that your child brings their reading books into school on this day
PE this term will continue to be on Tuesday and hopefully we will be outside in the sunshine.
Spelling Tricky Words - We are starting to learn how to spell tricky words in class. We will introduce the 3 tricky words in class on a Tuesday and then will send home in contact books information about your child's words that evening. We also send home a sheet to practise writing and spelling the words. This is to complete at home and does not need to be returned to school. We will continue to practise words throughout the week at school. On Monday we will have a spelling test. If your child gets '3 ticks' (all correct) then they will move onto the next 3 words, if not they will keep the same words to practise and learn for another week. Please support your child at home to learn the words through practise and fun games.
