Year One News
An exciting thing happened today! Year One received a parcel from the penguin in the story, ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. He sent us a letter asking us to help him find his way home. He also sent us some Penguin biscuits to help us think how we can help him. His plan worked! The children have decided to make some posters next week to help him find his way home.
This week:
In maths we have been working on number bonds within ten, using ten frames and bar models. We have added numbers together using ten frames.
In Phonics we worked on the sound e, with the spellings e and ea.
In English we wrote a recount and we have been practising writing sentences more independently, using our phonetical knowledge and the Year One Common Exception words.
In Science, we have continued our work on seasonal changes. We identified the weather patterns in each season.
We art we studied the artist, Molly Hasland and created spiral pictures.
Next week:
In maths we will be continuing our work on addition to ten, through adding more to a set of objects and solving addition problems. We will find missing parts of a ‘part whole’ models using our addition skills.
In Phonics we will learn about the sound ow, using the spellings ou and ow.
In English, we will continue to recite the text from the ‘Lost and Found’ poster, that the penguin has asked us to learn. We will design posters to help the penguin find his way home and retell the story through pictures.
In science we are studying the scientist Charles Mackintosh who invented the first waterproof raincoat.
We will continue to create spiral patterns in the style of Molly Hasland.

Important things to remember:
Please continue to bring your reading book and reading record to school every day. Thank you. Year One News
