Year 2 News
Year 2 have had a great start to the year! Every day, the children have demonstrated our school values and embraced their new routines and learning. It has been brilliant to see them trying their best, working hard and settling so well into Year 2.
This Week
Maths:
We have been learning about place value, partitioning two-digit numbers, and using place value charts and part-whole models.
Phonics:
We have been learning the /ae/ sound, spelt ay, ai, ae and a_e.
Reading:
We have been learning about reading fluently and have started practising our reading fluency with our partners.
Science:
We have started learning about animals, including humans. We have been exploring what makes animals different and thinking about how we can group them.
Geography:
We have been exploring atlases and revising our knowledge of the continents and oceans.
PSHE:
We have worked together to create our class rules and shared ideas about how we can be good friends to one another.
PE:
We have been developing our ball skills and have started gymnastics. We have been practising different ways of travelling and moving our bodies.
RE:
We have started learning about Judaism and have explored precious and special objects that are important to Jewish people.
Next Week
Maths:
We will be learning how to write numbers to 100 and how to flexibly partition two-digit numbers.
Phonics:
We will be learning about four more different spelling of the sound /ae/
Reading:
We will be practicing fluency and exploring the text 'Magic Finger'.
Geography
We will be learning more about what seas surround continents.
PE
We will be learning more ball skills and we will start working on our gymnastic routine.
Science
We will be learning about microabitats and exploring what different habitats we have around our school.
RE
We will be learning more about mezuzah in Jewish religion.
