Year 2 News

05 Jun 26

What a rainy start to June we've had!

This week

In Writing, we have been working on fact files and the factual knowledge they contain.

In Reading, we have started a new book - Interview with a Tiger

In Maths, we have started a unit on statistics and data handling - graphs, block diagrams, pictograms etc.

In Phonics, we are working on /r/ and its variants.

In Geography we have been learning about the features of the United Kingdom.

In PSHE we have been learning about and practicing kindness, as well as continuing to utilise our Zones of Regulation curriculum.

In PE we have started learning Dodgeball skills.

In Music we explored learning and performing songs together.

In ICT we have taken a school survey and logged on to Purple Mash to practice our times tables and get familiar with the platform.

We also had a practice day for Sports Day on Monday and our Photos taken on Friday morning.

Next week-

In Writing, we will be reading, editing and writing our own animal fact files.

In Reading, we will continue our paired reading curriculum with fluency and comprehension tasks.

In Maths, we will be working on statistics, charts, reading and recording data.

In Phonics, we wil continue /r/ sounds with variations /rr/ /rh/ /wr/

In PE we will be working on Dodgeball.

In Music we will learn a new song, look at some music history and perform on untuned instruments.

In Geography we will learn about the features of the UK and compare it with features of other countries.

In Science we will continue observing, and caring for, our growing plants.

PE days are now Mondays and Thursdays.

Given the unpredictably rainy weather, if you have spare pac-a-mac type waterproof raincoats children can squeeze in their bags, that would be worth doing. Packing a couple of spare (named) pairs of socks might also be worthwhile as accidents can happen whilst changing in and out of wellies! Thanks.
