Year 2 News
This week
In writing, we have been writing about "Traditional Tales" focusing on Little Red Riding Hood.
In Reading, we have continued to read 'The Magic Finger' working on our fluency skills.
In Maths, we have been learning about fractions.
In Phonics, we have been looking at the /h/ sound with the spellings help, heave, who, whole, hand, whose.
In PE we have begun a topic of Athletics exploring running, sprinting and how to increase our speed.
In Music we are learning rhythm and pulse.
In Science we have started a new unit about plants, exploring and learning what plants need to survive and how they start life as a seed.
Recently we had a special Geography Day. All day our activities centred around UK coastlines and the countries of the UK. We learnt about the Giant's Causeway, features of maps in coastal areas, cardinal directions (North, East, South and West) and the seas around the coast of the UK.
We also had a special African Dance workshop using our body to keep the beat and learning about 'isolation' of body parts to create different effects. We learnt a dance to the song "I Always Wanted a Brother" from 'Mufasa'.
Next week-
In writing, we will continue "Traditional Tales" focusing on Little Red Riding Hood and writing our own versions.
In Reading, we will move along with 'The Magic Finger' working on our fluency skills.
In Maths, we will move on to addition with Fractions.
In Phonics, we will continue the /h/ sound with new spellings.
In PE we will continue Athletics exploring long jump techniques - standing and running jumps.
In Music continue exploring rhythm and pulse.
In Science we will investigate seed germination and how to plant seeds to help them thrive.
Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays.
